The Lodge at White Park project consisted of assessing needs, financing, permitting, designing, and construction of a new skate house for White Park located in Concord, NH. Closed over a decade ago due to disrepair, the original 1,600 square foot Skate House was built in the 1950’s sitting on the banks of White Park Pond. The two-level, wood-framed building had numerous issues including inadequate electrical and mechanical systems, annual flooding of the lower level, inadequate restroom facilities, hazardous building materials, and potential mold growth.
Turner Group performed pro bono architecture and engineering services for the project. The proposed design included rebuilding the existing facility to be re-utilized as a skate house. The proposed plan included new restrooms, a skate rental area, snack bar, and warming/viewing area with a fireplace. Space planning and design for the new skate house began in 2017 and final drawings for construction were produced in 2018.
In July of 2018, the City of Concord approved final design and new construction of the Lodge at White Park. A private/public partnership was then formed between the City of Concord and the Fundraising Committee. The goal of the partnership was to bring improvements to Concord while reducing the cost to local taxpayers. The Fundraising Committee was charged with raising 50 percent of the funds for the $1.15 million project through private donations.
The City of Concord partnered with Milestone Engineering & Construction of Concord, NH as the contractors to for the project. Demolition of the existing skate house began in the Summer of 2018. Construction of the new two-story building began in the Fall of 2018 and continued through the Spring of 2019, opening in June 2019.
