Turner Group was selected to perform a comprehensive site analysis and feasibility study for the expansion of Hampton Academy, a historic school located in a dense urban area with limited available space. Recognizing the site’s constraints, TTG developed and presented four thoughtful design options to the building committee, offering creative solutions for positioning the addition while preserving the integrity of the existing campus.
This $25 million project included a 70,000 square-foot renovation of the existing facility and a new 65,000 square-foot addition featuring a modern gymnasium, auditorium, and expanded instructional spaces for performing and visual arts programs. The design emphasized educational space flexibility to support both current needs and future growth while carefully preserving the historic character of the original building.
To enhance campus safety and efficiency, TTG redesigned and reorganized the parking areas, increasing capacity and separating traffic loops for buses and parent drop-offs, greatly improving overall circulation and pedestrian safety. New HVAC, plumbing, fire suppression, and electrical systems were installed throughout the school, with a focus on occupant comfort, wellness, and sustainability. A displacement air ventilation system with integrated dehumidification was implemented, providing efficient cooling and improved indoor air quality for students and staff.
Security was significantly upgraded through a combination of passive and active safety measures, integrating modern security technology while maintaining a welcoming school environment. The result is a revitalized, future-ready educational facility that enhances learning opportunities, supports the arts, and respects the historic legacy of Hampton Academy.
