Community College System of New Hampshire Building Envelope Repair – Laconia, NH

The Turner Group was retained in the fall of 2018 by the Community College System of New Hampshire (CCSNH) to provide assistance to determine the source of water leakage into the building.  Moisture was observed at most openings on the east wall and the electrical outlets on this wall had to be shut off due to excessive moisture in the wall.  It was also determined that as the existing tiles began to fall off the building, it was imperative that the tiles be removed, and the new curtain wall system be installed as expeditiously as possible.

The building was designed to be used for Heath & Sciences at the Lakes Region Community College.  The building was designed in 2012.

Through extensive observations and testing, it was determined that the exterior wall cladding and construction was the source of the leaking.  The difficult decision was made to remove the tile and backer board on the exterior of the building and construct a new metal curtain wall.  We were able to design the new curtain wall system to utilize the existing light gage metal Z girts as well as the existing rigid insulation.

We worked with representatives of CCSNH and LRCC as well as the construction manager, Milestone Engineering and Construction of Concord, to develop a plan that would allow the new curtain wall to be installed in a timely manner.  Construction documents were issued in December of 2021 and the construction was completed in August of 2022.
