City Wide Community Center Renovation & Addition – Concord, NH

The City of Concord commissioned Turner Group to evaluate the former Dame School, a facility vacated by the school district following the construction of new elementary schools. Now home to the City Community Center and the offices of Parks and Recreation, the City’s goal was to reimagine and modernize the aging building to better serve the community.

TTG’s team conducted a thorough facility evaluation and site selection review, identifying opportunities to preserve the most functional portions of the building while replacing the obsolete areas. Through an inclusive process of community involvement and dialogue with City staff, TTG developed a concept design and comprehensive space programming plan that addressed current and future needs.

The design included a full renovation of the newest wing, converting it into flexible program and exercise rooms, while the older wing was demolished to make way for a new gymnasium, office spaces, a welcoming lobby, modern locker rooms, and a teaching kitchen. Throughout the design development process, TTG provided complete architectural and engineering services, balancing the City’s limited budget with the project’s goals.

TTG carefully maximized available construction dollars, delivering a sustainable, energy-efficient facility that meets current codes and anticipates future energy standards. Comprehensive construction documents were prepared to guide the project from concept to completion, ensuring the City received a modern, adaptable community space that will serve residents for years to come, without the need for major updates in the foreseeable future.
